I think the term kill shelter is a misnomer. And really unfair, as well. I hate to hear bashing in the community, when people should be coming together to help instead. You can educate everyone you know on the importance spay & neuter and what a huge impact on overpopulation we can make in our lifetimes. The euthanasia numbers for cats are already dropping in our city since we began the TNR programs! Tell everyone you know about H.O.P.E. for Animals and SNAP vouchers. These services make altering your pet very affordable! Donate.Volunteer. Transport to rescue. So, instead of kill shelter I think It should be called Oh my gosh, Monday we took in 38 animals, Tuesday we took in 23 animals, Wednesday we took in 18 animals, Thursday we took in 30 animals, Friday we took in 26 animals, Saturday we took in 35 animals, Sunday we took in 27 animals. Okay, okay, that title will probably never catch on... Per a nice blog from Lisa Reyes ~ My city, which has a population of approximately 256,000, has an average of 53 (last years stats of almost 12,000 take in) animals taken to Animal Care and Control every day. At my orientation it was put to us like this. If I dropped off 7 animals at your house tomorrow and asked you to find homes for them, how long do you think that would take? What if I dropped of 7 every day for the rest of your life? How well do you think you would do? That really put in perspective for me how hard it is for animals to be placed in homes in a timely manner Fort Wayne has an outstanding network of shelters and rescues, but theyre up against some tough numbers. We can all change that.
