I think the time is right to start making contact. Below is my letter to the RHA CEO Road Haulage Association Mr Richard Burnett May I first wish you all the best in your new role as CEO of the RHA and I hope that I can continue to communicate with you as I did with Mr Geoff Dunning duly retired. My first contact with you is to enquire on behalf of many truckers in the UK on where you stand as CEO of the Road Haulage Association in reference to the current implementation of the DCPC. I would hope in taking on your new role you are well aware that the RHA have endorsed it with open arms and consider it a massive benefit to our Industry in the training of UK Drivers. In reality I and many others believe it to be the opposite and has in actual fact harmed our Industry in no other way in the past by forcing out the many long term, highly experienced drivers that could and did pass on the useful and helpful advice to the new and younger generation of Drivers. Might I invite you to look at the many comments and replies being posted on the “Truckers CPC Protest Page” https://facebook/groups/774063789302839/ for a better understanding if unaware of how many drivers consider this so called training to be a complete waste of time and money and is of no benefit to Driver, Company or Industry or in making better the safety on UK Roads. In my opinion and many other Drivers, some trainers and Company Management and that of the British Aggregates Association, the RHA have only endorsed and backed this Directive with the plans of profit and income without giving any consideration as to the harm it has and is doing to our much needed Industry and the profession of Truck Driving. It has now been well documented and also recognized by the RHA that there is a looming Driver Shortage of skilled and professional drivers in the UK and this has been accelerated by the introduction of the DCPC. Only 1% of new drivers are replacing the yearly 12% of out going drivers each year and in every 5 year circle of the current DCPC this is going to increase dramatically as the workforce currently employed in the UK are on the older side of 50 The UK is fast approaching a massive shortfall in Drivers and as the RHA is supposedly in place to look after the welfare of its members how do you intend to assist them in ensuring there is employable professional drivers in the UK while at the same time endorsing the one thing that is openly seen to be forcing more to leave the profession while not being replaced. All individuals have read and seen the news articles, the press releases and no one with any judgement would deny that there is a problem. The protest to request a review and changes to the DCPC is growing fast and we are working hard to bring about talks in the first instance to bring about change that will not only benefit drivers but also that of the Companies and the Industry. No one I have spoken to or supports this protest is against good and appropriate training, but we are all against a implementation that is of no benefit to anyone. May I request the RHA carefully consider their direction in the future years, are you to continue supporting the DCPC in its current format which will cause your members (Companies) a Driver Shortage and damage this Industries image when the public start to witness the shelves not being filled and also become aware of how badly the CPC has been thought out also and possibly close down some smaller operators that are unable to replace drivers in the future. Or maybe consider offering your support and backing into getting a full Government review of the DCPC. A review of the DCPC would only be welcomed if on this occasion Drivers are asked to be included in any debate and introduce changes that benefit us and not just those that are making money out of a badly thought our implementation. Only those that are making profit from this DCPC are blind to what is actually happening. Ask any Company Director to lay out £1000s in training their employees which is of no benefit and I am sure the answer would be the same from all. Could you please inform me of the RHAs intent in the future, can we count on support for a review or are you to continue in making profit before looking after the Industries needs (blunt but true) To conclude this contact with you. This letter will be posted on the Truckers CPC Protest Page for all to read and I will ensure any reply from you will also be posted for all to read. It is on an open Face book group and as such many can read the content whether they offer support to the protest or not. I hope I do not have to post that the RHA have ignored us and not replied. Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you. Yours sincerely Barrie Tozer
