I think there are many misconceptions about tiny homes and who theyre for...or not for. Theyre not cheap....15-30k and you wont get financing for them. Youll be paying up front in cash. Once youve laid out the 15-30k to own one you need a place to put it. Thats a whole hot mess right now and theyre not legal in most places... Youre going to need a one ton truck to tow most of them and experience towing a heavy trailer. You DO realize youre going to be carrying a 5 gallon bucket of human waste around to dispose of right? Theres no running water....unless you hook up to a garden hose or catch rainwater in a barrel from your roof...and just where is that garden hose going to come from? someones house? Electricity...running a generator @3.50 per gallon of gas is unsupportable long term, a solar power/wind generator setup and battery bank will cost between 1,500 and 3,500 for a tiny home and wont be enough for air conditioning and heating with the energy produced. Dont forget installation costs and that the system will have to be paid for with cash without financing unless you put it on a credit card.... A one ton truck in good mechanical condition (used) and about ten years old runs about 15k and up depending on mileage and condition...new 30-60k... So...after you spend lets say just for example 35,000 dollars for a new or used tiny home with a solar power system its battery bank and a rainwater catchment system...a one ton truck to tow it, 15k...you have 50,000 dollars invested and very little of it financeable if you have the good credit and the income to repay it.... 50k...thats a lot...so...lets cut that in half because youre clever and in good physical condition, you can get free materials and do all the work yourself...25k....still a lot...lets get a cheaper truck, maybe one not in such good shape or with 200,000+ miles on it...for say, 5k...that reduces the total now to 15k...not a very likely price for a tiny home and a truck to tow it, but well play the game.... How many of you have 15,000 dollars in cash??? Someone who will loan or give it to you??? and you still dont have anywhere its legal to live in or just park it even if it sits empty... I know so many of us are dreaming of living in a tiny house...how many can make that dream come true? How much do your dreams and reality have in common? I dream about a lot of things, some of them are more likely, some of them are less likely... How many dreamers here have the resources and abilities needed to make this happen? Please comment...what you have to say is important...is this just a dream for you? what are the chances you can make it happen?
