I think this article inadvertently makes the excellent point that speed isnt the killer its painted to be - inattention, fatigue and drunk driving are the real dangers, but theyre much harder to police. I agree that having an open speed limit without fixing these issues will of course lead to more carnage (if youre going faster, youll have a bigger accident). But it raises the point that rather than lowering speed limits everywhere, we should instead address the root cause of the carnage in the first place.
