I think this is really funny coming from the Rolling Stone, which focuses on Rock n Roll. In the fifties and sixties, when rock was becoming popular, rock musicians had to fight to have their music recognized as true music. They were constantly hated on by older generations who felt rock music was just noise compared to genres such as jazz, big band, etc. It seems rockers have forgotten that rock was supposed to be about rebelling and bringing something new to the table. This kind of elitism bothers me, in all forms. Music is music. If you can make people dance, or even just feel something, why should it matter what medium you use to make that happen? Real musicians should be open to new avenues of sound, shouldnt we? Stop being so damn stuck-up. Open your mind and stop making music about competition, or hating on other musicians or styles. It defeats the purpose of being a musician.
