I think we have to re-educate our school kids on the differences between race, religion and language. I marked some assignments a few weeks ago and I discovered a few astonishing statements such as....."Malays will not be able to consume the food because it is not halal". The gist of the abovementioned statement is itself distorted. The right message is not carried across...........Many students gave different versions of this statement. Another one was....."Indians are not able to consume beef". Just for the record! Race = ethnic groups in a country or origin. In Singapore, distinctly Chinese, Malay,Indian and Eurasian. Religion = of a particular discipleship of faith. Islam, Christianity, Sikhism, Hinduism, Taoism etc... Language = spoken tongue. English, Tamil, Mandarin, Bahasa Melayu. (For example)"We do not speak Indian, we speak Tamil!" Good day! :)
