I think we need to have a Teaching Artist/Alumni vs. Youth "Get Yo Issue" Slam. That should be the youth spoken word official disciplinary action. Let whatever the person did be between the two parties, have all parties agree to slam. The only rule is you have to talk it out before the slam. None of the poems performed can be spitefully related to the situation. Have it like once a semester. Just some way of saying to the youth in a loving and familiar way, "If you feel like you have put in enough time revising poems, trying to think of poems, finding new ways to use blocking, practicing, touring, trying to pay my bills, trying to run an organization so that YO KNUCKLE HEAD BEHIND CAN HAVE A SAFE SPACE, AND trying to keep my poet street cred up by whooping up on people that I have known loved, admired, shared intimate and honest space with since before you put anything paper except your painted flipping fingers to act like that and call yourself a member of this organization then you then you should be able to beat me in a slam iWPS/WOW style!" Lol. You know. All outta love. And a desire for artistic and personal growth in young people. To foster leadership and accountability. Even have an open mic portion. Anyone with me?
