I think yesterday should help all college football fans realize - TopicsExpress

I think yesterday should help all college football fans realize just how bad the old BCS system was, how many bogus national champions it crowned. And worse, how many more deserving teams never got a chance to compete for a crown. There can be zero doubt but that in a BCS final poll, yesterdays two playoff losers would be the participants in a national championship game, and yesterdays victors would have played each other in the Rose Bowl for nothing but bragging rights. When you look a just how badly FSU lost, and how lop-sided the TCU victory was over a Mississippi team that was once this year ranked #1 - this also makes a huge statement for expanding the playoffs. TCU played well enough to provide a real challenge to Oregon. The most perfect playoff in sports in my opinion, is the NCAA basketball tournament. The bowl tradition in NCAA football is OK for weaker programs. It gives a feather and a few bucks to schools that have a nice season. But it has always been a horrible way to pick a true champion. I want to see a TCU or Baylor or Boise State have a real chance. Nothing will ever be perfect. But an 8, or better, a 16 team playoff would be a lot closer.
