I thought I would upload a picture of a 2004 MC-40 Mini S like mine. I have #250 of 1000 produced that commemorates the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally win by Paddy Hopkirk and Navigator Henry Widden. They beat Holman-Moody prepared Ford sponsored Falcons driven by the likes of John Holman and Graham Hill. A duplicate of mine is on the left. A picture of the original winner is on the right. When viewed separately you can see the lineage. When viewed together there is very little likeness apparent. Mine is a 1.6 Litre, super charged, fuel injected, with 6 speed Getrag transmission, multi link suspension, true 2 piece wheels with German Goodyear run flat tyres. The car was built in Oxford Britain by BMW. The new Mini was designed by now Ferrari CEO Marco Mattiacci when he competed with other BMW company designers before quickly climbing the automobile business ladder. One anecdote about why the exhaust tips appear to be aluminum beer cans. The last minute before his clay mockup he and his team created they realized they had forgotten to the exhaust. They quickly found 2 empty beer cans, polished them up and stuck them in the clay. Their car was chosen and the beer can exhaust stayed. Since my illness the car has been parked. Look forward possibly next year going all over it and return it to the highway. I have approximately 15 K on the odometer. It is the closest thing I have ever driven that handles as flat as a go-kart. It is very neutral and does not feel like a FWD car. I have gone 140+ MPH with throttle left. The throttle is a fly by wire one. It apparently is not speed governed as a regular S model. In 2007 BMW stopped using the Tritec engine developed by Rover, BMW, and Chrysler and began using the Peugot engine and replaced the supercharges with tubochargers.
