I thought Reza Aslan’s book, *No god but God: The Origins, Evolution, and Future of Islam* was very insightful and helped me better understand the Muslim world. But now with his new book, *Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth,* I have to doubt my earlier assessment of his expertise on religious history. This post by John C. Nugent does an excellent job of concisely describing the shortcomings of Reza Aslan’s hypothesis. By the way, I didn’t realize that Jessica Jackley divorced her husband, the person she co-founded Kiva with, Matthew Flannery, and married Reza Aslan. That was a shocker! I remember her speaking at Jubilee in 2009, and being very impressed. She was a committed evangelical Christian whose faith was evident in her work. Now she is proud of her interfaith marriage with a Muslim religious scholar who misreads the history of Jesus. Go figure. thinkchristian.net/embracing-a-zealous-jesus
