I thought it was a perfect day for biking. The Sun was shining. A cool breeze was blowing. Then I had a goddamn Meg Ryan moment--you know that scene in the City of Angels movie where she closes her eyes, lets go of the handlebars, and stretches out her arms while riding her bike on a winding mountain road with a long skirt and without a helmet moments before colliding with a truck and dying like roadkill. Well, I didnt close my eyes, let go of the handlebars, forget to wear a helmet, or wear a long skirt for that matter. Okay, stupid analogy with stupid movie scene. But I did have a moment when I just savored the sunlight and wind on my face after climbing Antipolo. And then I hit a rock that gave my tires a pinch flat despite inflating them 110 psi just before riding and using Continental Grand Prix 4000 tires with puncture resistant technology. German handcrafted my ass. Didnt do squat against a proudly made in the Philippines piece of rock. So I calmly bring out my tire levers, spare inner tube and pump. I replace the tube and pump it with air, only to find out my spare also has a leak. I was lucky to get a cab before dark. Good thing I decided not to go to Sierra Madre. Goddamn Meg Ryan moments.
