I thought some people might like to see some of the cool stuff we do, even when it doesnt make it into production! (everyone likes a peek behind the curtain, dont they?) For everything you see, there are 5 or 6 other projects that for various reasons never go full production. The Octagon rail for the AUG A3 had ARC LOK slots on 8 sides, and only added 6 ounces to the weight of the gun. The forend rail portion could be removed simply by turning three screws and the rail was left on top, which kept the quick barrel changes pretty easy to do. We had just finished design on our Octagon forend for the AUG A3 when Steyr announced they were switching production over to the M1 style. Unfortunately, the speed bump at the front of the M1 receiver makes it impossible to get the cantilever rail support necessary to make this work, and we decided that with changes coming down the road on the receiver(and the cost of gearing up for an extrusion for the octagon portion), it was better to focus on other projects.. :( But, it still is a cool design, and I thought you might all get a kick out of it. :) Sven Manticore Arms (It never got official marketing photos taken, hence why it is on a chair in the back of the shop- old photos from when we were showing it to some potential customers who were interested in a lighter weight forend system)
