I thought the Government was supposed to be short of money? Thats certainly what theyve been telling the EU :) This morning a letter dropped through my door telling me how much tax and National Insurance I have paid this year, plus how the Government spends its money. Given the supposed shortage of public money, I am not impressed. I assume they get a bulk discount on postage, but it still must be costing a fair fraction of a pounmd to post this. Then someone must have been paid for designing the letter, and for writing the software that allows their systems to extract this information for each taxpayer and import it into the letter. The reason this makes me blisteringly angry is that I cant see any point to it at all. If I am unimployed I know how much tax I pay. It is zero If I am self-employed, I know how much tax I paid. I spent hours working it out, or else paid someone a lot of money to do it for me. If I am an employee, I know how much tax I paid because it is on my payslip. Whichever of the above applies, I will also know how much tax I paid because it will be written on my P60 at the end of the year. As for how the money was spent, this is, in the 21st Century, easily available online. I doubt if the proportion of the poplulation who cares about the exact details exceeds exceeds 5% anyway. This is the kind of waste that makes me really angry. Surely rubbish like this should be opt in, not opt-out?
