I thought this might be an interesting thread idea: Why I am a ____ The purpose of this thread is not particularly to try and poke holes in each others reasons for why they identify themselves the way they do, but to offer an opportunity for each to articulate what their primary reasoning/motivations are for the worldview they hold. Think of it as a way for us to get to know where each other is coming from in a non-combative setting. (Please, no trolling!) Why I am a Christian: (you can insert in my opinion before each point in you want) - It is more reasonable than not that the universe has a creator. (agreement with Cosmological and Teleological arguments) - It is more reasonable than not that this creator would prefer to be known by sentient beings it creates. (belief in Divine Revelation) - It is more reasonable than not that one or all of the worlds religions would be representatives of the creators divine revelation. However, the worlds religions disagree fundamentally and therefore cannot all be true. (belief in Exclusivity) - A determination must be made as to which of the world religions is most likely to be true, having ruled out atheism or deism. An examination of their claims historically, philosophically, and experientially puts Christianity far ahead of all other contenders. (acceptance of Christianity) - Validations: Inner witness of the Holy Spirit, historical veracity of the Bible, concordance with science/nature (not a young-earther), accurate portrayal of the state of humanity, a unique redemptive plan where God comes to us and does the work rather than us clawing toward God hoping our works will be sufficient to please him. - Pascals Wager: Even if Im wrong, in spite of all above, and atheism is true, I know that I am a better man, husband, and father than I otherwise would have been if I did not believe, and also it wouldnt have ultimately mattered what I believed in any case. This was the thing that tipped me over the edge into praying to receive Christ. If nothing happened, I lost nothing. If I was really reborn then everything would change, and thats what happened.
