I tolerated the idea that we can both condemn the inexcusable murder of Charlie Hebdo staffers while also denouncing the content of their magazine because, yes, its possible, and if heavily armed lunatics marched into the Fox & Friends studio, for instance, Id probably write something like: Murder is wrong, but... too. That said, Fox News is truly a racist, bigoted, intolerant clan of liars, and having taken the time to learn what Charlie Hebdo is all about politically, all the liberal slams really do amount to victim-blaming. As initial misconceptions were cleared up, background about Charlies positions came to light, and French political news context offered, its been incredibly sad, frustrating, and fascinating to see these liberal scolds retreat into thinner and thinner justifications for their viciously ignorant original assessment, seemingly incapable of just saying, You know what? Turns out I was wrong. My bad. Most folks are like that—expert mental gymnasts, forever protecting their ideological presumptions because theyre tied to both their own egos but also their place within their social circle. And facts be damned. But maybe Im wrong.
