I too can not participate anymore...I have come to find out it is about self, also. SHARED POST~Ernest Gregoire Christmas was important to me in the past. Id volunteer my services as a musician to play my clarinet for the Salvation Army in front of a big department store to help them in their annual fund drive. I played Christmas Hymns for 2 hours straight, 3 times a week, for a month. I love Christmas music, as some of it was written by famous old classical composers. I gave it up; everything went, the hymns, the Salvation Army, the tree, the decorations, the presents. All of it originated in Babylon. I am grateful to Ms Suzanna Brown May, for taking the time to patiently explain it all to me. Its hard to change your paradigm, but Id rather be true to my God, than to a man made tradition. It was painful in many ways, but it was the right thing to do. Copy and past from Terri Watson To those who defend celebrating the holidays let me clarify why I dont. I agree its not a salvation issue. It is for me, however, an issue of faithfulness to God. Celebrating Christmas or Easter and saying its about Him is kinda like keeping mementoes from your ex and telling your spouse its for and about them when you display them. Its like telling your spouse that you are changing their birthday because you like the day you chose better. Its not cheating but it sure doesnt honor them or keep the promise of full commitment. I cant imagine that a God who so meticulously expressed the how/when/what of so many feasts to the Jews would not do the same for celebrating the Saviors birth and death if it was His desire for us. And if He did want such celebrations, surely they would be on the correct day of the events and not on days historically celebrating birth/death of pagan deities and using the second hand trappings of pagan worship. You say it doesnt mean that to me or we dont worship pagan gods. Really? Ask your child who he/she worships this time of year. Its not Jesus or God that gets children excited. Its the deity in the red suit who is not only an omni-present and all knowing pseudo-god who rewards good behavior and encourages greed but is also a sugar-coated way to teach children its okay to lie if its fun. Isnt family enough? Isnt God enough? Why is it necessary to create fantasy to feel good and spread joy? Why? Exactly what part of the season is about Him? The presents? The decorations? None of it is about Him. Its about self. We cant redeem anything for God. We are not redeemers. It would be a lot easier if I could just go along with the crowd but that is no longer even an option for me. I am not judging you if you do participate as that is not my place. I would appreciate the same courtesy from you. Blessings to all.
