I took Andy Petit hunting out behind my Grandpaws land once. Yes, THAT Andy Petit. Pierre Bihm had an agreement with Mr. Latimer who owned the land behind his plot, we could hunt as long as we only used shotguns. He had cattle out there and rifles may have harmed them. So I took Andy out to a spot that my Dad and I had scouted and we called it Paradise. There were acorn trees (Oaks) and hickory trees, there was also moving water there. It was squirrel paradise, (rabbits and other critters as well) and since he was my buddy, I wanted him to kill a few! But to get there, you had to cross a few fences and upon crossing one of these fences, instead of letting me hold his gun, he decided he could handle it. Well, in his handling of it, he slipped and shoved the business end of his shotgun into the mud in an effort to catch himself. After I crossed the fence, (while he held my gun) he proceeded to point his gun upwards and fire it!!! With the end still full of MUD!!!! I asked him What are you DOING!!!! (I was young enough that I was still afraid that if I cussed my Dad and Grandpaw would somehow hear me, even from half a mile away, and beat my ass when we got back) He said Im gonna shoot it and clear the barrel. At that point I took his gun from him, shucked the shells out, took out my pocket knife and cleared his barrel. That dude was about to blow his own hand off, if not his face. Im glad I was there for him. That folks, is my contribution to Major League Baseball. For the record, I dont think I have EVER watched one of his games.
