I took my 12 year old son to see Son of God tonight. I have read many reviews, both good and bad, of this movie. Here is my own review: It was a wonderful movie experience to share with my son. He was challenged and inspired from the emotional portrayal of Jesus and His followers. (**spoiler alert**) The movie portrays Jesus as the Son of God. He is portrayed as fully God, fully man, sinless and divine. There were a few Biblical missteps along the way, but none of them changed one bit of truth concerning the person and work of the Savior. Before you send me hate posts, I know that Jesus didnt enter Lazarus tomb to bring him back to life...I know that Mary Magdelene probably didnt spend every waking moment of Jesus three year ministry with the disciples...I know that the wise men didnt arrive at the birth of Jesus. But that does not stop me from enjoying the beauty and message of a nativity scene. Why? Because a nativity scene is NOT the Bible. It is a picture that points to a beautiful message of the Bible. Son of God is not the Bible. It is meant to point people to the Bible or to the Savior of the Bible. I believe it does that well. I understand that Roma Downey may have New Age ties. I also realize that Mel Gibson may be a mean drunk at times or a little crazy. That didnt stop me from being totally rocked by his movie, The Passion of the Christ. As far as Son of God goes, I could not find any New Age teachings or heresy. What I did find was an opportunity for me and my son to discuss the incredible sacrifice of Jesus Christ for the world. If you are one of my friends who doesnt follow Jesus or hang out with many of His followers, I recommend you see the movie and then come hang out with me so I can tell you more about my amazing Savior and His book. If you are one of my friends who is a follower of Jesus, you may or may not decide to see the movie...thats up to you. my only challenge to you is that we each live our lives in a way that points people to Jesus and His Bible. :)
