I took my daughter to see Phantom of the Opera last night in order to celebrate her 18th birthday. That being said, normally at this point, I follow up my topic statement with a laundry list of snarky complaints and sarcastic comments, but today there are none. The night was pretty much perfect. Found a bunch of friendly and talkative strangers, parking was a breeze, seats were great (balcony, but right in front of a railing, so no worries of theater patrons with pituitary gland issues ruining the experience). Ate at WalkOns, which for being part of a chain and in the middle of big-city touristy area, did a great job of approximating Cajun cuisine at not-completely-out-to-gouge-you prices. Even the table next to us - a group of nine or so drunk college students - were the happy drunk party types, and not at all obnoxious. All-in-all, it felt like the New Orleans in tourism brouchures and not the New Orleans on the 10 oclock news. Darn near perfect.
