I took my mokos home to introduce them to themselves to read the gravestones and the unknown faces of their whanaunga to see their names etched in stone and to understand the depth and significance of who they are this place that means little to strangers but everything to my mokopuna. They walked where I once walked played where I once played and to feel the warmth of over zealous cuddly aunties who just want to smother you with barley sugar kisses and eat you up. I took them to a place where the history is them, the genealogy is them where they will one day do the same thing with their own mokopuna where they will one day stand and be part of this day and re-tell the stories that link them to a people whos blood is spilled defending this place whos reality is earth bound and are not afraid to share it and say so. My mokos have met with their tupuna stood in the shadow of their mountain and on the very land that is theirs greeted by the hierarchy that is theirs in a language that is theirs ... they know themselves now
