I took my youngest, Nolan to McDonalds after school today. He got a good report card this week so I wanted to treat him a little. While waiting in line I could not help but overhear the conversation going on behind me between to guys. One of the gentlemen, and I use this term lightly, was telling his friend that his 15 year old daughter was pregnant. As I was thinking to myself how bad it was that too many children are having children these days, the second guy said what I was thinking. He tells his pal that he is sorry that his daughter is pregnant. And then much to my amazement the soon to be grandfather says, and I quote no man you dont understand. My baby is having a baby, I couldnt be happier its going to be great. My jaw hit the floor. The second guys eyes got real big. After the immediate shock wore off the second guy says that he hopes that the soon to be mother will be able to finish high school. And without missing a beat the soon to be grandfather says I dont care if she finishes or not. and then repeats himself again by saying my baby is having a baby and I couldnt be happier. Now, I do not claim to be the best father in the world. I have made my share of mistakes. And continue to do so. But this guys attitude just amazes me. First he is happy that she is pregnant and then doesnt care if she finishes high school or not. All I can think at this time is that this is one of the many things wrong society today.
