I took these shots today under the shade of an apple orchard on the grounds of Lismore Castle that is being managed by traditional means -- yes that fella is using a scythe to control grasses. What impressed me most was not the colors; the plant diversity or even the blisters on the gardeners hands. What hit me most was the sound. This place was absolutely teaming with pollinators and birds! I even heard what could have been two field mice (?) having a bit of a fight before my clumsy footsteps broke it up and sent them scattering. Point is: This was only the 2nd year of transition from a monocultural grassland to a vibrant meadow. Wildflower meadows create life for a multitude of organisms that interact at all levels of biology, ecology and human consciousness. Lets bring them back.
