I totally agree with respecting our Vets but I dont see how these two things are linked? Faulty logic seems to be de rigueur these days (eg a cyclist without a helmet gets killed going the wrong way on a busy 4 lane road that has bicycle lanes in both directions and a journalist calls for speed reductions because that is the obvious source of the tragedy). Back to the original post I believe holiday celebrations were very important to the soldiers. We have remembrance DAY, poppies are worn for a week or two. Do we now need to be morose from Halloween until the 11th? Really-is that truly showing respect or paying lip service. True respect would be getting out and attending RD ceremonies, or going to visit vets in nursing homes, etc.
