I tried to explain this to someone the other day, because they brought up how ppl use there upbringing (read cycles of) as an excuse, but in reality, (he continued) ppl react in very different ways, some ppl use it as an excuse to reinforce bad habits (we were talking about financial planning/saving/budgeting) while others will do the total opposite. I tried to explain that it is more complicated, and more simple than that... Its not necessarily an excuse, more like, sometimes when you grow up poor, and all you have are simple pleasures, say like going out to eat as friends, its easy to fall into instant gratification, but in the end, nothing changes, and tomorrow you will still be poor, or poorer for the $40 spent...lol... and that it takes a lot of self examination, and work to change those habits... and not everyone has the ability of thinking past this moment, on this day, because every day is exactly the same. And actually, there is more to it than that, but it was a short conversation, where I wanted to make the point, the using the word like excuse doesnt necessarily apply when talking about poverty, poor, working poor, etc. and ppls ability to pull themselves up by the bootstraps... Hell, I knew logically the things needed to change, but it me a yr to figure out what, and another yr and half to figure out how, and then about 6 months to actually make changes, went thru a bit of an emotional slump, because the changes were implimented, and I was actually POORER than I was before...lol... But stuck it out... and its really really really hard! Its mentally exhausting! And just think, if I had kids to take care of? ugh, I dont even want to think about it.... Is This What You Want?
