I truly believe that the majority of the problems facing our modern society stem from the fact that no one will honestly listen to a person who just needs to talk. Advice, personal anecdotes, trying to relate, interjections: these are all pathetic crutches we have invented to steer conversation away from intimacy, depth, and therapeutic value. I suppose one could hire a shrink, but then there is the fact that you are buying their time, which basically voids any human value. This is terrifying to me. We move so fast, yet accomplish so little.
