I usually try to post witty things on here and be a funny guy, but today I have a bit of a heavy heart. I dont want to name names, because I dont want to spread anyones business or borrow trouble, but in the last day and a half; I have had a glimpse of a few close friends struggling through a tough time. Sympathy and empathy are both acts of feeling, but with sympathy you feel for the person; you’re sorry for them or pity them, but you don’t specifically understand what they’re feeling. Sometimes we’re left with little choice but to feel sympathetic because we really can’t understand the plight or predicament of someone else. It takes imagination, work, or possibly a similar experience to get to empathy. Cancer is a horrible thing for any age, and I have the utmost respect for the people who have to face it. I have found myself thinking this afternoon what it would feel like to be told you only had x amount of time left to live. How many emotions would that trigger? Not only for you, but for your loved ones? How would it feel to be a parent of a child diagnosed and have to watch them suffer? I cant even imagine. I really dont think anyone can until they are forced into that situation. Its so hard to try and be there and comfort someone and to try and find the right things to say when in all honesty you cant even imagine what they must be feeling. For some reason I just felt compelled to spill my thoughts on here about this. I know it wont change the situation, but there is nothing wrong with trying to ignite a little good in the world. For my friends mentioned, you know Ill be here if you need anything; and I have many prayers and positive thoughts for you and your family in this difficult time. For anyone else who takes time to read this, send a positive thought or a prayer in their direction too please. Life is precious and amazing, but sometimes it can be hard; and in those times we just need to stand together to make it a little easier. Thanks.
