I`ve been missing from our site here lately because of the teardown and clean up of my old lead/zinc mill 22 miles north of Colville on the Aladdin Road towards Deep Lake. It`s a very sad time for me but the EPA has decided that it is a health hazzard after I have lived here for 39 years. The project is costing 3 million dollars. The clean-up at the mill site will still take another month and they will be back in the spring to level and cover my 30 acre tailings area. It`s a shame she has to go but mother nature was slowly bringing her down anyway. I`m going to miss looking out my kitchen window and looking at the old girl. The last picture here is just one of several piles of the boards and timbers that they have hauled to the tailings area to be later chipped and buried. Lots of good looking barnboard going to waste. The 12x12 20 foot timbers alone sell for $800 each but I`m not allowed to keep them because they say they are contaminated. Gee, surprising I`m still alive after living right in the middle of it all for 39 years.
