I visited Dynasty at Islamabad Marriott Hotel today for dinner, - TopicsExpress

I visited Dynasty at Islamabad Marriott Hotel today for dinner, the food was great as usual but upon going through the check, I realized that there was Rs. 50 added to the bill against the title of “Charity”. I called for the manager and inquired him about why exactly am I supposed to pay a charity to Marriot to which his response was that the charity is for Shaukat Khanum Hospital and it could be revoked from the check if the patron doesn’t want to pay it (the same was stated at the footer of the printed check as well). My concern is: 1) If Marriot really wants to donate to Shaukat Khanum Hospital any amount of money, it should be done from their own revenue and should not be charged to the patron without their consent. 2) There should be a clear signage stating that Marriot in collaboration with Shaukat Khanum Hospital is giving an opportunity to donate every time you dine in so that the patrons can be well aware of the drive. There was no mention of such drive or the name of Shaukat Khanum Hospital anywhere around the premises! 3) The server should first ask the patron if they want the donation to be charged to them or not as many people do not even bother to go through the check, hence they wouldn’t even be aware that they’ve just given a charity. The manager asked me if he should get us another check without the charity added to it but of course, I didn’t bother to get that done. As a regular patron, why would I want to trust Marriot to be giving charities on my behalf, what’s your take on it guys?
