I voted yes on HB 4344. This bill passed the House with a vote of 107-0. The bill eliminates the population threshold (previously set at 750,000) for cities, villages and townships to allow them to provide police authority for fire arson investigators. The bill was initially drafted as a "fix" to a situation specifically crafted for the City of Detroit. It was amended on second reading (and subsequently passed) to effectively make this allowance available to all communities in the State, pursuant to the statute.
