I waited to say anything until it became official, but, I was offered a position this morning, that I have gratefully accepted. I still work for the program at the college, and will continue to do so in pursuit of a teaching position after grad school. This new role is in addition to that job, not to replace it. I was hired to work with the Archway program as an in-home behavioral technician II. I will be working with kids that are severely autistic, or who have severe developmental and behavioral disabilities, providing ABA therapy. I will also make school visits to monitor their progress there as well. This position blows the doors open for future teaching opportunities, including abnormal psych, social work and the developmental disabilities departments. That is wonderful, but that isnt why I took the job. Sometimes life deals a bad hand, and no one chooses to have the life that these kids do. I have always enjoyed working with these wonderful kids, and this takes it much further. Care, patience and a willingness to understand can really make a difference in someones life, and if there is an opportunity to be that for someone, how can you not?
