I waited to write this post until this morning because I wanted to be sure to get it right. What is artistry? What is expressiveness? Sometimes those two things can be very elusive in spite of of performances of great precision and accuracy. At yesterdays festival, the audience was treated to some incredible examples. Listening to Vocal Jazz One, directed by Vijay Singh, The sincerity demonstrated by the singers in their approach to the music, added to their incredible technical skills, made the experience transcending. Vast talent, yes. A teacher – conductor with experience and knowledge, yes. However it was the intangible, undefinable thing that every person in the audience and Im sure every performer on stage could feel that made it great. The true definition of artistry and expression. Thank you, Vijay, and performers for a great listening experience.
