I want a Guyana that isnt afraid of Change, Progress and - TopicsExpress

I want a Guyana that isnt afraid of Change, Progress and Partnership simply because those words have been touted by Political Leaders forever in perpetual disagreement. Tonight I was forced to think of the Guyana I want, as a youth, as a citizen, as a member of the electorate, as a young professional, as a Guyanese. The Guyana I envision has a Ceremonial Head of State and a Prime Minister as the Head of Government. It has two Houses: a Lower House and an Upper House. The Lower House filled by elected representatives from constituencies; the upper House has independent members and Technocrats of the highest order. A Guyana where certain key positions are filled by Technocrats finding their place in a fully meritocratic society rather than strategically-placed bureaucrats that contribute, whether by act or omission, to institutional ineffectiveness. A Guyana that has a Local Government system that is fully autonomous where Regional Councils have the power of self-determination; independent from chokehold influence of Central Government. Each Region has its own Police Department, state of the art Health Facilities, power to pursue independent policies for development. A Guyana where self-development and resource maximisation could see the population increasing exponentially to about 10,00,000 by 2075 with resources and institutional provisions commensurate to that increase. And with innovation in all sectors whether traditional (Farming) or non-traditional (Manufacturing). A country where power is decentralised and quality is never compromised for expediency. A country where democracy means inclusion and not a dictatorship of the majority. A country where the youth are the greatest pride of the nation with a system designed to recognise that an investment in youth is an investment in development all across the board; social, economic, political. A Guyana where equity and equal opportunity form the basis for all decisions. Where this cannot be achieved, let there be a commitment to minimal disenfranchisement. A Guyana where constitutional enshrinements and human rights law are placed at the front of every curriculum so that the individual, at whatever age, may know of how they can be protected from the arbitrary will of the state. A Guyana where there is no zero-sum competition where one group must lose in order for another to win. A Guyana where Research and Development is a priority after education, equal representation, Freedoms of speech, expression etc, health and the like. A Guyana where social research is encouraged and accepted so that we may build a better Guyana- together. Sounds idealistic. But Revolutionary change is the point where idealism meets realism to bring about a whole new circumstance. Only the small minded is afraid of Revolution. The small mind thinks of revolution as violence. But every move to break away from a mould that once bind us with ignorance, fear, and misinformation is a revolution. Picking up a book is a revolution against ignorance. Revolutions are funny things, eh. The thesis meets the antithesis to form the synthesis.
