I want to apologize for the time that it took me to tell everyone thank-you for helping my IVCC student in need. I put a call out on Facebook a few weeks before Christmas and was deeply moved by how many helped. Some shared my request, some gave money and gifts and some sent encouraging words to her and others in her situation. Many from IVCC also responded to my request. We surprised my student with a wonderful dinner at a local restaurant and then went to our cars and vans to give her the gifts. She and her children were able to have a holiday they will never forget! She is deeply grateful and any cash donations (because we received so many) went to gift and VISA cards that she will be given throughout the semester. Its nice to know you have a safety net if needed. It allows her to concentrate on school and not where I am going to get the money for gas and food. I was also able to hook her up with a great mentoring group from a local church in the town that she lives. They have taken her to an intern interview (which she GOT!), advise her on things, and are going to get her van repaired so it is in tip top shape for the rest of the school year and beyond. And speaking of beyond, my student still has her sights on attending Western Illinois University and graduate with a degree in Graphic Design. I hope someday to attend that graduation with all of the people who have been so inspirational to her.
