I want to be on Harper’s Enemies List So, this is what we have - TopicsExpress

I want to be on Harper’s Enemies List So, this is what we have become in the mind of our Prime Minister, a country of friends and enemies. We all have heard by now the stories about the Prime Minister ordering the construction of an Enemies List - the individuals and organizations that are to be watched, treated suspiciously and even excluded from public programs and activities. It is as Nixonian as it gets. Is this what Canada has become under Harper’s Conservatives who divide the country into camps? In one camp, we have those who agree with him; they are his “friends”. In contrast, if you happen to exercise your Charter right to free expression and happen to hold an opinion in opposition to Harper, it seems that you are sent into the other camp – and placed on his political Enemies List. Well, truth be told, if I am not already on Harper’s Enemies List, I sure as hell want to be. If you feel, as I do, that the Canada we once knew as a generous, open, fair, and decent country is slowly but surely being taken over by people who are permanently angry, partisan, and divisive, then I encourage you to get yourself on the enemies list, and lend your voice in opposition. If you support the right of women’s groups, or any advocacy group to offer constructive criticism and even disagree with the Harper Conservatives, then you should get on the Enemies List. If you believe in science, facts and evidence, and if you believe that the environment and the planet is at risk, then you should be on Harper’s Enemies List in opposition to his policies. If you believe that cheating at elections and using tactics worthy of a banana republic constitute offenses against the essential character of our country, then you should oppose the Harper government and, get yourself on the Enemies List. If you believe that you have a right to know what your Conservative government is doing with your money, and if you believe that it’s wrong to hide information, tell half truths and distort, then you should oppose this, and get on the Enemies List. If you believe that it is wrong for Harper to withhold evidence from the RCMP’s criminal investigation into the $ 90, 000 Mike Duffy pay-off, as the national media is now reporting, then you should oppose the Harper Conservatives and get on the Enemies List. I am not so much concerned about Harper Enemies List. If doing one’s job by opposing and holding the government to account lands me on the List, then I would be proud to be on it. I am more concerned about the dark place that Harper and his staff seem to lurk, a place where each day is an opportunity to divide Canadians, to pit one region against another, to conceal the truth, and then tell us how great they are, all the while dismantling the social cohesion of our country. The Enemies List is but a symptom. Harper and his henchmen’s first instincts are suspicion, fear and division. I want my Canada back. If you agree with me, email the Prime Minister and tell him: [email protected] Sean Casey MP
