I want to commend the Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC), Streets & Sanitation, and the Chicago Police Department for a strong presence at yesterdays Pride Parade. We are working around the clock to clean up the neighborhood today and tomorrow. If, after this clean-up, there remains a specific area that needs special attention, please call my office at 773-525-6034. Unfortunately, there was a shooting in front of 3132 N. Sheffield at 2:00am this morning. The 21-year-old victim is an admitted gang member and is recovering from a bullet wound to his forearm at Illinois Masonic. Detectives are reviewing video surveillance as a part of their investigation. As we receive more information about this incident, we will share it with you. The midnight shift, entertainment teams and tactical teams have a special attention on this area. The Midnight shift will also be conducting periodic roll calls at Belmont/Sheffield to add increased police presence to the area. Safety is my ongoing number one concern for our Ward. The problems that came with the post-parade late-night crowd will be addressed as we continue to examine the parade route and evaluate all options for next year.
