I want to give a demonstration of how your mind can be manipulated. Watch this video while asking these questions: 1. what in this video can be used as proof that smoking kills, that nicotine is addictive, that DDT is harmful, that climate change is happening, or that climate change is man-made? 2. if its true that people lied and used propaganda to influence you, does that prove that the makers of this video are NOT lying and using propaganda to influence you? 3. do you, as a result of watching this video, feel angry, upset, guilty, or any other negative emotion that may affect the way you treat other people or yourself? Now, I personally have been addicted to nicotine, am allergic to pesticides and other chemicals, and am concerned about the factors that are leading to increased atmospheric carbon levels. But I am also a scientist. And this video is an excellent example of propaganda used to influence your thinking and especially your behaviour WITHOUT USING ANY SCIENCE. It is manipulative and destructive, not because it implies anything untrue, but because it is specifically designed to make you feel bad and compel you to align with the makers of the video ...and then do what they want you to do. Solutions do not come from the same mindset that produces the problems in the first place. Increased atmospheric carbon levels come from fossil fuel use in agriculture, industry and transportation. This came about by hundreds of millions of people following the crowd, instead of staying home and growing their own gardens and pursuing their own interests. Own your mind. Do not give it over to emotional manipulators, regardless of whether their intentions are good.
