I want to give you a quick update on my dad as so many of you are asking about him. I came in from CT on Thursday after an urgent call from my brothers. Following his triple bypass surgery 9 days ago, then subsequent pacemaker surgery, dad had suffered a stroke on Thursday morning. Dad was very fortunate to still be at Riverside when it happened. Quick action was taken to remove the clot, which was the size of a grain of sand. He initially suffered some ill effects including limited use of his right side, slurred speech etc. but his mind has remained sound. He has worked diligently to begin to overcome these issues and yesterday was moved from the Neuro-ICU to the step down unit. He has a long road ahead of him to recover from all of this trauma his body has suffered but he is working hard to do so. He has been surrounded by the people that love him the most, including his loving wife of 55 years, all 5 of his children (all in the same city at the same time for the first time in about 5 years!), grandchildren, his only living brother, two sister in laws and many friends and neighbors. Right now (now that his glasses were finally located!) he is reading cards, chatting with family and even using his iPad! The outpouring of prayers, love, cards, notes, visits, food and offers of assistance has been so touching. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
