I want to say something about the state of a large part of our society. And let me be VERY clear... What I am writing about is most definitely NOT exclusive to people of any particular race. REAL problems and issues DO exist - and desperately need to be properly addressed. If you think the poor people of our nations larger cities are enraged about what happened to a black punk -- you are badly mistaken. They couldnt give a rats ass about Mike Brown. They know he was out of line. But they also know that every cop carries a tazer. And they know that if a cop can hit a head shot, then surely he can shoot a guy in the leg instead. And so, what they DO care about is fearing a nation-wide police force which acts as judge, jury, and executioner. What they DO care about is the all-too-common harassment, brutalities, and color/culture based discrimination by police; many of which are readily available on You-Tube. Especially when those same police are known to take forever to respond to a 911 call if its in the wrong neighborhood. They care about a Judicial System which laughs and throws the book at foolish young men who make stupid, young men mistakes -- knowing full well that even if the young man is actually innocent, he cant afford a lawyer and will end up with a trumped-up felony record for the next 10 years which will prevent him from getting a decent job and thereby destroy his HOPE for building a better life as he grows during his 20s. What they DO care about is that when real life starts to tackle on, and they hit bottom, grow up a little, and decide to try to pull themselves up by their boot-straps - they have no boots. And even if they do have any boots to start with - they end up getting slapped in the face by a snotty, self-righteous society which sorely lacks the intelligence and heart to employ compassion and understanding towards someone who made a foolish young man mistake and got busted with some weed or got out of line at school. What they DO care about is that they get judged for being a dead-beat dad when they are 30 years old - when the truth of life is not so simple. And that single mom with 3 kids on welfare and food stamps? Did you know that she CAN pass a drug screen any day of the week, just as the other 99% can do? Did you know she was married for 6 years before her husband got locked up? Guess what her kids are getting for Christmas? Nothing. And they arent going to a dentist either. Much less a decent school. Now what do you think those 3 kids are going to think about the system when they get older? Thats right... They are going to hate it and want to replace it. But go ahead... Lecture that single mom about those boot straps. She wants to know where the boots are!! Oh yes! They certainly DO care about their own poverty while Wall Street is getting a new Tax write-off. They care about the unemployment in their part of the city - while the Chamber of Commerce boys are hiring illegal immigrants and uncle sam refuses to do anything about it. They do care about being cast as lazy, welfare moochers - when the truth is that they are more than willing to work - but Minimum Wage simply wont pay the rent; and gas money is hard to come by. And what they DO care about is a society that says Well its your own fault for not being a genius like Bill Gates. And - what they DO care about is being made to look like trash by a small percentage of people who really are no-good. And they resent being told Well you should do something about the bad apples in your own bushel - when their reply is Isnt that what a good police force would be doing? So you see -- things are not always what they seem. In fact - false perceptions tend to become reality. The full truth isnt considered by society in general because the full truth isnt publicized. The small handful of powerful men who own and control the news channels and stations and newspapers and magazines and television and music industry -- have used the tools at their disposal to distract attention away from the voices of reason. Divide and Conquer - is their modus operandi. A new face furthering the message of Martin Luther King is NOT what those powerful men want you and your kids to see and hear and think about. But make no mistake --- somewhere in the smoke of Ferguson, Missouri last night - that voice was there. Crying out with tears in eyes. And choking on the smoke.
