I want to spend a few moments with a history lesson. The United - TopicsExpress

I want to spend a few moments with a history lesson. The United States is not a confederacy. It is a democratic republic . This has meant since James Madison designed our Constitution that we the people would make decisions and forward these decisions through our legislators because our population was so big that we couldnt vote on everything. The President would execute our laws; the Supreme Court would interpret. Rome had had a Senate that degenerated into an empire; Athens had had a democracy that had crashed and burned due to rivalry. Now, I guess Ross Perot was right to say that we have technology to vote on everything now. There would be some disenfranchised, but since practically everybody would have a cell phone, that might work. There are those who think wed be better off with a pure republic, having our decisions made for us by a parliament of corporate leaders, but that would assume that their interests would be ours as well as theirs. I dont think were in a position of trust right now. And I fear that the masses are not well-informed enough to avoid being manipulated. That was why James Madison constructed a balance between the democracy and the republic. For Madisons genius to work, the three branches of the government owe it to the people to do their jobs. If you dont like the President find someone that you do like and elect him, and quit trying to trip the hall monitor. If your representative isnt showing up for work or yammers about nothing when he gets there, dont let him get away with that gerrymandering crap and elect somebody that wants a job to do. And once the legislative branch is right, stack the court with enough like-minded people to get the legal system straight. Tell me if you think this is right. As Americans we need stability to effectively deal with a world where people are cutting our heads off abroad. People still want to come to America; this should fill us with pride - not make us so mad. Lets use the technology we have to educate our kids to be the strongest work force in the world like we are now the strongest military. And lets disagree if we have to, but without nasty words, anger, or violence. We can do better; we have gifts of communication and cooperation. Lets insist our government behave accordingly.
