I want to thank all my Facebook friends for sharing their experiences on this day twelve years ago. We had a moment of silence at work at the time the first tower was struck. I know I was at work at the high school and heard it on the radio. I went to the office next to mine and asked if they’d heard it and they said yes. We couldn’t understand how a plane could run into such a big structure…it wasn’t like you couldn’t see it! Well, our lightheartedness soon turned to concern when we heard of the other plane and that it wasn’t just a small personal plane. As students came in and asked me about it, I told them what I had heard on the radio and we had several students in my office listening to the radio. It’s difficult to act like everything is going to be fine when you are so unsure yourself. I remember at one point I had to walk to the other side of the building and I looked out the third floor hall window and saw a plane flying in the distance. This is after all planes were suppose to be grounded, That was such an eerie feeling. Then going home at lunch and sitting with Kevin watching the towers collapse and him wondering, “Do I go into work?” He’d only worked at the airport a couple of weeks. I wanted to tell him no, but he had to try (thankfully they turned him around.) I didn’t mean to get so wordy but, so many memories come flowing back. I thank all the first responders, and those who came later, and grieve for those who lost loved ones. May God bless all of us and our country and keep us all safe.
