I wanted to provide an update on Sallys situation - I thought Id go back and review the whole situation to hopefully avoid any confusion. Sally has a severely fractured vertebra (T4 to be exact), initially diagnosed about 4 weeks ago and confirmed by MRI about 3 weeks ago. This is causing her continuous great pain and discomfort and has left her unable to do very much. Also part of the diagnosis was osteopenia that is likely the root cause behind the fracture. Additionally, there is some suspicion that cancer may be the cause of the osteopenia (if so, probably the previous breast cancer that had metastasized). Sally has seen a neurosurgeon who believes that surgery or reconstruction of the fractured vertebra is not warranted at this time, at least from a neurological standpoint. We are not 100% comfortable with this assessment and may seek a second opinion from an orthopedic surgeon after this week. Sally had a PET scan over a week ago that did not offer a conclusive diagnosis as to the presence or absence of any cancer in the area of the T4 vertebra (it did appear to rule out any cancer elsewhere in her body). She is now scheduled to undergo a biopsy of the vertebra to determine if it has any cancer in it, which is this week. In the meantime, she is suffering with often unbearable pain. We truly covet your prayers ....
