I wanted to share my post about Robin Williams. I hope its ok. This isnt so much a photo of Los Angeles as it is a story about him in Los Angeles, and how I was graced by his presence, for just a moment.... In the mid 80s I would go to the Comedy Store in Hollywood, to sing, in the Belly Room (an small, intimate stage above the Main Room where the comedians performed). It was an exciting time. Before and after my time slot I would go downstairs and watch the comedians perform. Rising stars like Roseanne Barr, Sam Kinison, Eddie Murphy, Paul Mooney, Andrew Dice Clay, and Louie Anderson were part of a close rat pack pool of talent that would hob nob and support eachothers acts. But I always remember Robin Williams. These suspenders and colorful Hawaiian shirts that he would wear. (This was years before Mork & Mindy). He was a tornado on that small stage, whipping the crowd into a fired up frenzy, like whiplash, then when he was done, would jump off stage, and go stand quietly in the back hallway as his fellow comedians would come up and congratulate him on his set. He was so humble. And actually appeared embarrassed by his attention. I always wondered how he could do (and appear to be) two completely different types of people. But, now I understand. The performer is not the person sometimes. Years later, when I would see Robin in movies, acting and being that tornado, I always remembered his shy and quiet demeanor in that Comedy Store hallway. Today, I feel lucky that I had caught a glimpse of him in that way...perhaps, a glimpse of who he really was.
