I wanted to share this email we just received from a 25 year old - TopicsExpress

I wanted to share this email we just received from a 25 year old woman who was denied adoption through us yesterday because she refused to sign a no-declaw contract because her stuff was more important. This is the kind of ignorance I daily. We have a lot more educating to do... I want to thank you for considering my husband, Doug, and I for a chance to adopt Tiger, the sweet, playful, orange Tabby. Unfortunately, your organization will not allow us to provide Tiger with a loving home with another sweet, playful male Tabby, because we will de-claw his front paws. I do not understand how an organization like yourself finds it okay to have animals spayed and neutered, but de-clawing is dangerous to their health. Doesnt this pose health risks as well and isnt it unnatural to not allow them to reproduce? I am truly disappointed that for your own selfish reasons, you will not provide Tiger, or other cats for that matter, with a loving home. I have a photo of Tiger sitting next to my purse and on top of our adoption papers... Id say he was pretty comfortable with us and it was a sign that we would be a great fit. To know that we would be sued if we took him home with us and eventually de-clawed is ridiculous. I understand this is how your organization operates and your protecting your animals, but once he is in my care, he is NOT your responsibility, he is MINE. When we met Tiger, even his foster mommy said we would be a great fit for Tiger. Between my husband and I, we have had 7 cats throughout our lifetime... ALL which have been de-clawed and lived LONG, HAPPY LIVES. I truly wonder how often you follow up with families to see how their cat is actually doing and if theyve de-clawed or not. I also hope you find peace in knowing that the less cats you adopt to families like mine, the more cats there are running stray. I will be taking my business elsewhere to find another deserving cat of a loving home, and will not recommend Paws for the Cause to anyone looking for an animal, mostly because your adoption process is absolutely ridiculous. I truly hope Tiger finds a home soon because he deserves to be with a loving family. Regards, Alana
