I wanted to take a minute to weigh in on the subject of stores being open on Thanksgiving Day. Let me make it perfect ally clear. The Secret Garden will ALWAYS be closed on all holidays. In no way am I judging another business that chooses to be open on holidays, but I will be closed. It is my philosophy that family is by far more important than sales. I love my store and the women that work here. My customers have been faithful and supportive for going on 28 years. It has been the tradition that the day before a holiday we close early to be with our friends and family. Traditionally I work alone with my daughters the day before Thanksgiving and Christmas. As long as I own The Secret Garden and Fredericksburg Paper Goods this will be the rule. I know I am an old dog when it comes to retail. I have been in sales 41 years. I have been taught by the best: Faye and Irving Bernbaum who owned continental watch and jewelry in Birmingham Mich. Sheldon Zeldes ! Rick Carlson and Steve Fishkin of Joskes of Texas. No one knows retail better than these people. I owe them my success. The Secret Garden will always close at dinner time, unless there is a special event. My children are long gone now, so I do not have to make them dinner anymore but...... I do have a ranch to run, horses to tend to and a house to clean. I try every day to make sure my customers have a wonderful shopping experience at The Secret Garden and Fredericksburg Paper Goods. My goal is to maintain excellent customer service and provide my customers with wonderful merchandise . I do it 10 to 5:30, then it is time to go home. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of my customers and my fellow sales people for all the love and support over the years and to wish you and your families a beautiful holiday season.
