I wanted to update on my very first post regarding some of my sons - TopicsExpress

I wanted to update on my very first post regarding some of my sons behaviors and signs of ASD from before we had a diagnosis. Russell no longer shakes his head ferociously from side to side for long periods of time, he rarely will spin around in circles for long periods of time, I would no longer classify him as a "picky eater" although he does not like change or being introduced to new foods. He has a wide variety of food he likes, and does eat meat now. He still does not play with other kids or copy them, but he does not mind (most times) if they play along side him with enough space, Russell still has a very repetitive speech BUT he has an immense vocabulary for a little boy who said about 20 words this last May. He is much more of a cuddler, but it is still on his terms. He does almost always need to be prompted for hugs and kisses but he does a fair amount of this on his own, too! I think he is very very loving. With A LOT A LOT of work he no longer is extremely attached the vacuum in particular, and no longer calls it hum hum. He does take it apart and use it daily but he talks, hugs, kisses, and cries over it less and less. He still looks at things out of the corner of his eyes and lines up toys, and hand flaps quiet a bit. He still throws and has violent episodes as well as pretty bad meltdowns. He does not do transitions well and has a very strict routine on walks and things that are typically routine. He does respond to his name but after a lot of work and several tries to let him know he needs to look. We are still working on PICA ( much less) or the ADHD diagnosis but I believe with all the picture charts and consistency his focus is coming along, after all he is only two. Russell has come a long way and I am very proud of him.
