I wanted to warn the Members on the group of a scam i was caught by. I needed tyres for a vehicle of mine and went into a tyre dealer to enquire. Upon leaving the dealer i was approached by two coloured males that insisted they could beat any price, and that the tyres i required were as good as new at half the price. To cut a long story short i took down James number and met them later in the week at the same tyre shop as they had suposedly sourced my tyres. We (myself and the two of them) drove to the corner of a Location that had a stack of tyres all shapes and sizes. I stopped my vehicle and the first male took my cell number down and punched it into his phone. He left his friend with me on the premise that he needs to go and pay and confirm the sizes. I parted with my money which was my first mistake (R 4000). He then called me confirmed the sizes and asked that he talk to his friend. I gave my cell phone to james who then instructed me to reverse my bakkie so he could help his friend load. Whilst reversing and waiting for all of 30 seconds i realised i had given him my phone and money. I jumped out of my vehicle and ran around the back of the informal tyre shop and they were gone. I asked some of the locals if they had seen them before and they swore blind they hadnt. I have one of there cell numbers and it still works i asked when i would get my money and phone back and was told i would get a call with a location. I realise that i will never see the money again but dont want anyone else to get caught, im sure they would also Hi-Jack you if you gave them half a chance.
