I was **JUST** talking to a friend about this tonight! I called - TopicsExpress

I was **JUST** talking to a friend about this tonight! I called around to find a local home group awhile back and they were very welcoming. When I gave them the ages of my kids... I did not find even one open one. It was suggested that I try one of the kid friendly houses. But... they were full. That was disappointing. I find that here and there. Not necessarily in all churches or anything but I have a friend who was recently asked to sit in the back of the church **in case** her child might make noise... and then when she made normal baby noises... she was asked leave the sanctuary. In the church I went to up north... when the Pastor would hear one of our kids (even mine for instance)... if he wasnt in the middle of a deep point.. hed acknowledge the baby and say something like, See, even Ben agrees with me. or something silly like, Tim must have had giggly pebbles for breakfast this morning lol... I understand a respect thing in certain situations (a wedding, a conference, a speaker, etc)... but I think children should be embraced more fully in the large church setting, especially because there are different stages of learning the child goes through and training the parents are trying to do. Children are not robots. And babys cant control their noises. Where I think the parents can definitely train their child in good behaviors... it is a *teaching* thing... and, sadly, I think most parents are terrified to try out of perceived embarrassment/fear of what others think or they are being instructed/taught that childrens noise is an inexcusable distraction and the expectation of quietness is paramount. I question what kind of setting they are looking for when noises are hushed at all costs.
