I was actually in Port harcourt the other day. I decided to check the level of developement there. Frankly speaking, I was actually disappointed. This is not an APC/PDP bashing. I am here speaking as a concerned nigerian. From what I saw, Chibuike Amaechi is just like T. A. Orji. What Amaechi did was to fix the popular roads in PH (which I understand that most of the roads that are good are federal roads). As soon as you drive off from those major roads, you will see decays. The guy said that he was going to dualize some roads and pursuant to that, he demolished some houses or parts of the houses. However, when you drive through the roads you will see the demolished houses and that the roads are still in the same state they were. No dualization, no improvement. I drove through several streets and I saw that most of the streets are not even tarred. Puddles and ponds of water fill the streets. In some of the major roads, the roads are closed on the pretense that construction work is going on there but when I went back to the place two weeks after, the roads were still closed yet no construction work went on in that past two weeks. Even the federal roads are very bad; Aba road before Eleme junction is an eyesore. I was in the Lands Office and I was told that civil servants are being owed several months salaries. Lawyers have abandoned that state. Due to the disagreement Amaechi had with National Judicial Council over the appointment of a Chief Judge, Amaechi closed all the courts in Rivers state and told the judiciary workers to go home. He promised them that he would be paying them their salaries and up till now, the judiciary workers are the only workers who are paid up to date despite the fact that they have not worked almost a year now. When the trouble initially started and there was a bomb blast, Amaechi was the person that encouraged the judiciary workers to go home. To him, it is better that the judiciary does not work than for him to work with a Chief Judge who he did not approve. Right now, except the Federal High Court, no court has been sitting in Rivers state. Lawyers have abandoned the state. During the first tenure of Governor Amaechi, he was doing well but in this second tenure, Rivers state had never had it this bad. Amaechi spent all his time yabbing and insulting president Jonathan, fighting Patience Jonathan, driving El Rufai to and fro DSS office, flying the APC stalwarts in Rivers State govt private jet around the country. He was in all rallies of the party, using the Rivers state money to promote a personal agenda of being chosen as a vice president candidate. Critics said that he was the person that financed Buharis campaign and that he has spent N17Billion in that quest. Last week, a friend told me that she accompanied a journalist to a breakfast with Amaechi at govt house. Amaechi told the journalists the necessity of writing positive things about him in pursuance of his vice president slot. After that, the names of all the attendees were taken and as they were leaving, the ushers gave every person in that hall N100,000. The girl said that the money was in a brown envelope and that she could not believe her eyes when she opened the envelope. Her friend confirmed to her that that was what Amaechi does to journalists and their escorts every week so that an impression would be created through the media that he is indispensable. God knows I did not make up this story as the girl that was given the money is also my friend here on Facebook and I know she would read this piece and contradict me if I am misrepresenting facts. She even called me as soon as she left the breskfast hall. This wasteful tendencies is not peculiar to Amaechi. Theodore Orji of Abia state wastes money on journalists too so that good things can be written about him. If not for the rise of the social media and internet, there is no way any outsider can know that these two men are shameless failures. Laws should be made to control the excesses of those in power. A situation where the man in power sees states funds as available funds he can use at will, is very unfortunate. Assuming Theodore Orji had used all the money he wasted in the media and to settle journalists, and used the money to fix Abia roads, Abia state would have been an Eldorado. Assuming Amaechi has not wasted the estimated N17Billion of the Rivers state money on the elusive VP project, I am sure Rivers state would have been better off. Amaechi is actually a bad news to Rivers state. I go there and I speak about what I know. People like Amaechi and Theodore Orji should never be allowed to come near political power. They are a disgrace to anything power.
