I was all excited this morning because one of my all time favorite bands from the 1970s was releasing a Live album from a tour they did in 1974. Crosby , Stills ,Nash and Young were and are one of my all time favorite bands. They broke up in 72, but reunited in 74 for a cross country tour. I was determined to see them, but the closest that they came to Lansing was Chicago. I had no car, but wrote away for tickets anyway...at $10 per ticket, but it had sold out completely in one day. So... I missed the show. They reunited a couple of times through the years to record, but never toured together again until January of 2000. They played in Detroit, and this time I was in the audience. What a great show! Even though I paid $75 per ticket. As for the tour in 1974? I read that they called it the Doom tour because the band members were too drugged and out of sorts with each other. Bootlegs of some of the shows confirmed that they were frequently out of tune and under-rehearsed. So... I guessed that I didnt miss much, but still wished I had seen that 74 show. Rumors about its eventual release on record were passed around from time to time, but now theyve finally released it on 3 discs and a DVD. Pretty Cool! Even though the package is $50, I wanted to buy it on the day it was released. TODAY. I havent bought a CD from a store in awhile. Everything I like is usually mail order only. But I figured that this had to be a pretty big deal, so I drove to Best Buy (Down Okemos Road) (HA) and was stunned at what I saw. There is only one aisle for CDs now. There used to be a whole huge section of the store for music. They used to have EVERYTHING there! But now people only buy single songs at a time through the cheap mp3 format. I was hugely saddened by this. The clerk I talked to had never heard of the band (of course), but said that they would special order it for me if I wanted to. I said no, thanks anyway... I wonder if Ill ever go back in that store again? Maybe if we need a new washer and dryer.
