I was asked if I thought of writing a book about the origins of the New Testament. I intended to but life got in the way. At first I wanted to read all of the best scholarship I could find to form my opinions. I say, At first because the more I read, the more clearly I understood the best scholarship was not really my answer, or anyones really. We have a build in authenticator (once we learn to listen to Him). Scholarship was the begging point to get my mind going in the right direction. Author Elaine Pagels and her book on Revelation had a profound effect on me; so much so I give Revelation zero credibility for having any positive effect in believers lives (well worth the read). The synoptic gospels were probably not written by the people whose names are in the title (at least not the NT characters with those names), and all but John came at least in part from the earlier book Mark . It is doubtful that the synoptics were written by eye witnesses either. Much of the gospel of John speaks to me in ways that benefit my faith; the revelation of God as our spiritual Father. I reject anything with a Jewish connotation, the more Jewish the more rubbish. I say this because Jesus examples of living were anti-Jewish (anti-religious). The more Jewish the NT writing the more harmful effect it will have on those who hold to Jesus as their example for living, both in faith and in. Paul had somewhat of a handle on this with his dire warnings about Judaizers. I think Paul, being born into Judaism, was still influenced his life in ways we today are completely free from.
